Paducah American Energy Hub
A strategic partnership between Brookfield, NextEra Energy Resources, Big Rivers Electric Corporation, Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative and Paducah Power System to develop and power AI infrastructure at the U.S. Department of Energy's Paducah Site. Representing one of the largest private investments in Kentucky history, the project is designed to create jobs, strengthen grid reliability and protect existing utility customers from added costs.

Our Commitment
Protect Utility Rates
In alignment with the Ratepayer Protection Pledge, the project protects existing customers from additional rate impacts by ensuring the data center will cover the cost of new infrastructure and power needs.
Respect Natural Resources and Preserve Quality of Life
The potential designs for the project reflect a responsible approach to water use that is expected to use less water than what the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant was originally designed to use. The project is being designed with the surrounding community in mind, including evaluating potential lighting and noise impacts to help ensure compatibility with nearby land uses.
Deliver Long-Term Value
Representing billions of dollars in capital investment, the project positions the region for long-term economic growth and competitiveness by attracting next-generation industries.
Foster Open and Transparent Communications
While still in the early stages, the project participants are committed to working closely with the local community – sharing updates, listening to feedback and ensuring access to information throughout the process.
Ensure Grid Stability
The project adds more dispatchable energy capacity to the grid than the data center uses, benefiting the regional electric grid.
Project Overview

The Paducah American Energy Hub to be a large-scale AI data center campus supported by dedicated power generation, while NextEra Energy Resources would develop and own the energy infrastructure necessary to serve the project. Big Rivers Electric Corporation would provide wholesale electric service, Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative would provide retail electric service, and Paducah Power System would serve as a community partner.
Designed to support long-term economic growth, the project represents a significant private investment in Western Kentucky and is expected to create thousands of construction jobs and hundreds of long-term operational positions. The project is also structured so that the data center bears the cost of the infrastructure required to serve it, helping to protect existing residential and small-business utility customers while supporting broader reliability improvements across the regional electric system and fulfilling the White House’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge.
Why Paducah?
The former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant was uniquely suited for a project of this scale because it already possesses critical infrastructure necessary to support large industrial operations, including transmission capacity, water resources, fiber connectivity, road access and available land. Leveraging these existing assets helps accelerate development while building upon the site's longstanding legacy of supporting America's energy and national security missions.
