Pennsylvania Energy Center
NextEra Energy Resources is working to build natural gas-powered energy infrastructure in Southwestern Pennsylvania to support responsible growth, strengthen Pennsylvania’s energy infrastructure and deliver long-term economic benefits to local communities and bring long-term economic benefits to the region.
Project Overview
NextEra Energy Resources will build reliable, American-made energy solutions to support large-scale electricity demand in Pennsylvania.
Strategic natural gas solutions will be added in phases, supporting the overall reliability of the PJM grid.
The “Bring Your Own Generation” approach leverages homegrown energy resources to deliver reliable infrastructure quickly and at scale without increasing electricity costs for American households.
The project is in the early stages of development. As planning progresses, NextEra Energy Resources is committed to sharing information and engaging with local communities.
National Framework
The project was selected as part of the U.S.-Japan Trade Deal, a program designed to fund investments in U.S. energy infrastructure.
What is being proposed
The Pennsylvania Energy Center is planned as a phased energy project expected to include natural gas-powered generation.

A phased approach allows the project to be built incrementally, based on customer needs, infrastructure readiness and regulatory requirements. As planning progresses, NextEra Energy Resources is committed to keeping the community informed every step of the way.
Project details, including configuration and timeline, will be determined as development advances. Construction will not begin without required permits and approvals.
Why Pennsylvania?
Southwestern Pennsylvania offers a strong foundation for energy development, including proximity to natural gas supply, industrial infrastructure and access to skilled labor and supply chains. This project would:
| Protect fairness and affordability for existing utility customers
| Support increased large-scale energy demand
| Create significant good-paying job opportunities
